You're Talking About Hockey?!/Almost Baseball Season/Free Agency in NFL/C's Little Winning Streak?

How good does it feel to say baseball season will be starting in about, a month.

I personally can't wait.

So. Where do I even begin.

Let's start with the sport I know the least about. But these past two weeks have been filled with hockey. I've only witnessed two games, and both were similarly exciting.

It began with the Olympics. I could care less about a hockey game. Seriously. But I mean, when your nations hockey team has the chance to win the gold, you're going to watch. No matter what. How many people tuned in to watch Phelps break the record of his Olympic phenomenal performance? The whole world. But you don't see people dying to watch swimming relay races on pay per view.

Point made. The whole world was watching this game. Yes, even America.
It took me back to my soccer days, since that's what hockey reminds me of (except skating on ice and hitting the ball with a hockey stick). But it was close throughout the whole game. Coming down to the end of regulation, USA scores the tying goal. I was so shocked by my reaction. I screamed as if the Celtics just hit a buzzer beater for the win, or if the Kevin Youkilis bombed a game winning shot off of Mo Rivera. I couldn't believe myself. I was actually getting my emotions tied into a hockey game. I was hoping for a penalty shootout to take place, but apparently it's another quarter played. Just like overtime in football, the first one who scores will win. That's when Sid the Kid put the puck in the net, taking all of America's hopes and dreams of a 30 year span with it.

After showing my disappointment for the loss. I quickly gathered myself together. "Snap out of it Jeremy, you don't like hockey anyways." That's right. Whatever, Canada invented hockey they should be winning the gold anyways. No need to be sad. I wouldn't let it get to me! It's like when your team gets booted out of the playoffs and you immediately look at the current or upcoming sport being played, so you have something else to look forward to. All I had to say was, "f#@* hockey."

Then the following weekend, MY own schools hockey team was playing in the championship game. Just like the Olympics, even if you don't like hockey..your team has a chance to win it all, so you're going to watch. In this case, I decided to be apart of it and went down to the hockey rink to watch. I looked down at the seats, and the first row by the glass was open. SICK, I want to see players getting checked up against the glass so I can humiliate them for their horrible effort of being a hockey player. Speaking of the devil, this game was JUST like the Olympics. Both goal tenders were on their game. Fitchburg State was down one going into the last minute of play. I guess if you're down by a goal, you take out your goalie to add an extra man onto the ice to shoot. And you will be screwed if the opponent gets ahold of that puck because more than likely they could score from the opposite side of the rink.
So with 20 seconds left, Fitchburg scores to tie it! What a scene it was. The players were acting as if they won it already. One of the players slid on his stomach. It was overtime. And about 5 minutes in, Salem State (opponent) put it in the net for the win. All you could see was an army of red jerseys one by one jumping on the scorer. Sticks and gloves all over the rink, as if Fitchburg players were laying on the ice, so broken.

But sorry for going off topic guys. I know hockey is sports, but not my field.

A week into Spring Training and surprisingly no major headlines. Kind of boring? But at the same time I'll take that any day. Because what makes headlines in Spring Training is injuries. This word has haunted Boston fans every year. Tom Brady & Wes Welker with the Patriots, Dice K, J.D. Drew, and Mike Lowell for the Red Sox, and the whole Celtic basketball team.

Spring training in my opinion is mostly circled around prospects. And boy do the Red Sox have one of their own. Casey Kelly. This 20 year old from Sarasota, Florida is bound to have a bright future with this ball club. This past winter I was saying "throw him in the deal for Adrian Gonzalez" but I definitely take that statement back. The Red Sox honestly can't have enough pitching. Hopefully he'll succeed in Triple A, and get to make his debut at some point this season. His delivery is a lot like Keith Foulke's. The hesitation before he throws. He doesn't have incredibly power junk, but more towards the 12-6 curve, good change area. Definitely will get a lot of outs with this guy. So Red Sox nation, keep your eyes open for this prospect. Another prospect is Iglesias, but he'll be starting in Double A Portland. You should see this guys batting stance. It's a clone of Nomar. How ironic. We haven't had a star shortstop since Nomar. So give it a year or two, and he should be a future number 2 hitter in the lineup. Also outfielders Ryan Kalish, Josh Reddick, and Ryan Westmoreland will be the future of our outfield. These guys are producing in spring ball, big time.

So I'm thinking next week I'll do my 2010 MLB Season Projections.

Want to talk about a future phenom in this league? Stephen Strasburg. Holy cow. I was watching his 2 innings pitched against the Detroit Tigers, and boy does he have nasty stuff. Not to mention, he has a lightning fastball that had All Star Miguel Cabrera swinging and missing.

I know it's hard to say now, but Washington could possibly be pretty nasty in the future. I love rebuilding teams. Especially if you rebuild correctly. I think the Nationals were one of the most successful teams coming out of this offseason. They signed Jason Marquis, Chien Min Wang, and Ivan Rodriguez. They won't be over .500, but possibly a couple games below. And this is definitely a big step forward from previous worst record in the MLB years.

The signing of Ivan Rodriguez is for the future. Not only will Strasburg have veteran pitchers and catcher, but also for an upcoming star. Guaranteed, going for the first selection to
Washington will be Bryce Harper. Future catcher. Future co star of this franchise. The Sports Illustrated cover explains it all. This kid is 16 and can crush the ball 517 feet. Is this a better Joe Mauer coming into the MLB? If I were a major league team I'd be jumping on this kid instantly to get on my team. Look for him to be a future star.

This past Friday was the first day of Free Agency for the NFL. The Chicago Bears should have and were the most active team signing players. Due to the fact they have no 1st and 2nd round draft picks, you could've expected them to go on a signing frenzy. Signing TE Brandon Malumeleuna, RB Chester Taylor, and All Star DE Julius Peppers. I thought the Patriots would go after Peppers..but in this case, the Patriots haven't gone after anyone pretty much. Other than a TE I've never heard of on the Rams, and resigning Leigh Bodden, the Patriots have been dead silent. When the rest of the division is making noise. The Dolphins signing Arizona's star linebacker Karlos Dansby, and the Jets trading for Antonio Cromartie. From the looks of it no one is going to make a complete pass against the Jets.
But back to the Patriots, what's going on? I know there is some good young talent in this years draft, and next year we'll get Oaklands first round draft pick, but there are so many empty slots that need to be filled. Welker could miss the beginning of the season, so who is going to be our number 2 slot receiver? Antonio Bryant? I was thinking Brandon Marshall, but there's no way I'd give up a pick for that obnoxious bag of garbage. After what he pulled last offseason, no way. But the Patriots front office needs to wake up. Before all of the free agents are gone and your talking old men out of retirement to play linebacker, please do us all a favor.
I'm excited to see who they draft in the first round. They'll definitely be going for a pass rusher type player. Someone like Brandon Graham from Michigan, Sergio Kendle from Texas, or Ricky Sapp from Clemson. Either way they need a young full throttle pass rusher in the first round. And I'm pumped to see whose going to team up with Jerod Mayo to finally put pressure on the QB.

In NBA news, the Celtics are putting together a winning streak of their own. 5-6 in a row? Not bad. They're looking at holding the 3rd seed right now. Which I'm not worried about. They've proven they can play better on the road than home, so home court advantage shouldn't matter too much.

I went to the Wizards vs Celtics game Sunday night. What a turn of events that was. Pretty much the whole game except for the last 5 minutes, the Celtics played like absolute trash out there. They got some boos, in which they deserved it. Just shows you all it takes is 5 minutes of effort to beat the Wizards.

It was so nice to see Ray Allen coming up clutch in front of my own eyes. I'm glad we kept him and didn't trade him away. This has definitely lit a fire under him, and he should be staying in his dominating form throughout the playoffs. With the addition of Michael Finley, we have a great second unit off the bench. I think the team age average boosted up to 50 with that acquisition. Finley should bring some more experience and solid bench play. They need to get the chemistry down, and we could make a pretty good run in the playoffs. I'm not guaranteeing any winning the Championship, yet. But They've got their identity, now it's time to run with it. Just hope for no injuries for this last month of the season! Before all of these old men head into the nursing home, let's please get an 18th banner up. Before we get as bad as the New Jersey Nets are as of now.

Yes unfortunately, we lost to them. But it's okay. They're pulling it together, and I'm liking the direction they're going in right now.

So this is it for this week! Sorry for the 2 week vacation I took from this, but Follow my blogs, and leave comments with questions or anything and I'll definitely respond.

Take care now.
