Wait, This Isn't How It's Supposed To Be

Alright so we're two games into the season. And both had the same theme to themselves, pitching not up to potential.

Lester wasn't himself last night, and his cutter was absent. But a slow start to the season for him isn't news to us. Last year, he had a 5.69 ERA through the end of May. So there's no need to worry about him.
In the first inning he was looking real sharp. Struck out Jeter and Texiera with the heat. His fastball was getting up to 96, so I was thinking to myself 'maybe we can get our first good outing of the season.
By the 5th inning, he wore down, and was really missing his spots (kind of like how Beckett was the night before).
With Beckett and Lester's poor start, it only make sense that the Sox win the rubber game tonight behind Jon Lackey. This would be a great series if Lackey were to pitch a gem. We weren't expecting pitching to be a problem, that was the last of them. Fans main concerns this offseason was offense and so far this offense has been coming through. Youkilis, Pedroia, and especially Martinez have been coming through big, and we'll need them to continue their production to help this team. Don't get worried about the pitching, it's the first week in April, they'll get it together. Trust me, this is an ACE pitching staff.

David Ortiz on the other hand is frustrating. For the sake of all of us and himself, GET A HIT TONIGHT. If David goes 0-4 tonight, he won't be hearing the end of it. He already was cursing in a report yesterday when he was asked about his offensive struggle. I agree with him, I know, it's early, it's only 7 at bats. But I don't think he realizes what he made us wait for last year, and how long he made us wait. Just get it out of the way, David. Hit a home run damnit, and Red Sox nation will no longer be this pest of a boulder on your back.
We know by now that no one has more faith in David Ortiz more than Terry Francona. Good for him. Because if it was any other manager, they'd be penciling in Mike Lowell in the DH spot. "We're nine hours into the season. It's early. We want to have an atmosphere where guys want to do the right thing -- we always talk about that -- and we want them to walk up there and feel confident. I don't want David looking over his shoulder a game and a half into the season." ~Tito
Get it done David, before the memories of 2004 start to fade away, and you become one of those "bums" that are marched out of town by the fans. I personally am a big fan of yours, and know that you can be a big anchor in the lineup. It's just the time to slump, is NOT now. Fans would be a lot more relaxed if he slumped mid season with a good 15 home runs under his belt. So again, if he goes 0-4 tonight, run for the hills David.

As for the team overall. The offense keep on pushing. Luckily the last two poor pitching performances were No Decisions, so next time around it will be time to pitch a solid game.

Time to win the rubber match tonight. Go Lackey. Go Sox. Cross Your Fingers for Big Papi.
