It's Just Spring Training..Right?

We're heading into less than 2 weeks away from the regular season, and you could say so far spring training hasn't been too exciting. Tuesday night, Red Sox fans held their breath when they saw the replay of Pedroia bending awkwardly on his wrist after diving after a grounder hit by Twins outfielder Denard Span.

Luckily, X rays came back negative.

Red Sox reporter Amalie Benjamin interviewed Pedroia about the injury: "I rolled my wrist. I'll take BP tomorrow, and then play the next day. That's it," he said. "I'm good. There's nothing. It's more spring training. It hurt at the time, and then they just took me out of the game. No big deal."

That's what we like to hear Dustin. There's nothing worse than taking an All Star caliber bat out of your 2 hole.

"All the bones are there. They're all there," he said. "I just iced it today, that's it. It's just sore. No big deal. It's OK. We'll be all right. I'm a quick healer. ... I don't have that many bones, so I heal quick."

Pedroia has been having a solid spring training. 1 Home Run 8 RBI's batting .351.  As for the other guys, I guess we'll have to wait until Opening Day to see what they can do. David Ortiz has gotten 9 hits in almost 40 ABs this Spring. Oh the haunting past of the 09 season. But to Ortiz, it's nothing to worry about, "They don't have Spring Training stats on the back of baseball cards do they?" No David, but they do have your terrible .238 batting average and your display of a decline in your career on the back of one. There's nothing more than us Sox fans need more than Big Papi to get a fast start this season. I'll be satisfied if he puts up the 30 HR 100 RBI's, but we're going need more than that. Hopefully.

Clay Bucholtz,  yikes. That's all I can say about his spring so far. A 10.80 ERA this spring. He especially got hammered Tuesday night. Everyone's still waiting to see Bucholtz play to his potential, but the more he makes us wait, the more he could be going to a team like San Diego, who can wait for him to develop..and they can hand over the silver slugger Adrian Gonzalez
Who knows, maybe Clay could start out the season in the bullpen and have Wake in the rotation. That's how it's looking now. It's too bad because last year's spring training, Bucholtz had a 2.52 ERA in 6 games pitched. I have a feeling it was the changing of the number, and putting on the extra pounds. But aside from this, there's a lot of improvement Clay will have to show to earn his spot in the rotation.

Guys who are lighting up spring training are Mike Cameron and Jeremy Hermida. Both guys are important to this Boston lineup. You know why? Because they aren't expected to produce much anyways. Hermida will be a vast improvement from last years Rocco Baldelli in a backup, 4th outfielder, and Mike Cameron will most likely hit in the 7th spot. So it would be nice to have some solid production from there.

Other than the thumbs up. J.D. Drew/.154 Marco Scutaro/.161 Lowell/.100

Hopefully Theo can make a move for Lowell before the season starts. Getting someone young in return.

But like I said..it's just spring training..right?
