Is This What It Takes To Win?

The Red Sox came into tonight's game with a dismal, 4-9 record. Terrible. That's never a way you want to start a baseball season. There's 162 games in a season, I know, but getting off to a slow start isn't usually a recipe for success. Like Theo said "There's no sugar coating to it, we've been playing bad ball." With our big bats slumping, Tito decided to move Pedroia into the 3 hole, and then bump everyone back.

With Mike Cameron and Jacoby Ellsbury likely headed on the DL, it seems like there's a disaster waiting to happen. So Theo calls up Josh Reddick (highly touted outfield prospect/electric bat) and Darnell McDonald(31 year old, been with many teams, solid outfielder).

Reddick and McDonald drove in 5 of the 7 runs scored tonight.

It seems like the unexpected is coming through. Lowell pinch hitting for Papi, since he couldn't hit a beach ball if he tried to. Martinez getting subbed out for Varitek, since he can't throw out ANYONE who steals against him, including Vladimir Guerrero. He whose on the basepaths with a walker.

If you didn't know already, Darnell McDonald is a hero tonight in Boston. Hitting a 2 run bomb in the 8th to tie the game. Then came up again in the 9th to hit a Game Winning double. What a night for this guy, probably the highlight of his career that hasn't been given a chance.

The starting pitching continues to struggle. Beckett's the only hope right now.
What you hope for is this win starting a win streak. This guy McDonald will hopefully slap some reality into Youk, VMart, Papi, and the gang, by saying 'look, I'm some random minor leaguer that just came up for a game, and did exactly what I'm asked to do.' I'm looking forward to seeing how the rub off this walk off win tonight.

Time to finish off April strong.

By the way, Hermida (my boy) hit a bomb tonight. That's 3 on the year for him already. That short right field fence really helps him out. So keeping him in the lineup will be critical to a possible phenom being reborn.
Tito's got a lot of brainstorming to do. A lot of mixing up to do. Maybe you got to sit the star guys, and play the guys who are producing this year. (Tek hitting .400) If it takes Papi snapping another bat over his knee then oh well. He needs to cool off a little bit right now. Last year isn't going to happen again Mr. Ortiz, we're not waiting until June for you to produce.

So like I said, look for a pretty interesting week ahead for the Sox. Go C's! Killed the Heat today. This one's looking to be a sweep!
